Another P of Marketing- Politics

Elections 2013 are done and dusted in Pakistan. But they have left some excellent case studies and references not only for the political sciences student and practitioners but the marketing, brand and advertising personal also.
The strategies of political parties and their followers have high correlations with several marketing and advertising principles. Pakistanis have witnessed extraordinary amalgamation of two otherwise fields- politics and marketing.
This P of marketing deals with how politicians, government, political parties and other stakeholders, even Local and Multinational companies harness for political undertakings and high voting turnout.

Brand Positioning:

Like Brands, Political Parties usually position themselves as per their ideology, and this time they have marketed it through 360 degree advertising campaign. For example, Pakistan People Parties (PPP) has positioned them as a ruling party who has tried its level best to provide public sectors jobs/business opportunity (Waseela Rozgar) and welfare payment (BISP Payment)positioning themselves more towards socialism. This whole positioning was based on their philosophy of “Roti, Kapraa aur Makaan”- basic need of life.
Jamat-e-Islami , Jamiat-Ulma-e-Islam(JUI) , Muttahida Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen (MWM) other religious political parties used Islam’s (the majority religion of Pakistan) name to the level creating a clutter known as “Religious Parties”.
While as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf PTI has penetrated the market with their youthful image. Like Obama’s 2008 campaign PTI has adopted the brand mantra of “change” in its positioning strategy.  PTI face a very tough challenge from its competitors Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) on the position with their Laptop Scheme.

Niche Market

Regional or National? Political Parties like Muthaida Quami Movement  (MQM) and Awami National Parties (ANP) are those parties who are well known in the whole political market but are viewed as brands that are have loyalty in few major areas, like MQM have in Urban Sindh and ANP in KPK. They have more focus on ethnic group found in Pakistan. MQM for Muhajirs and ANP for Pukthoon.

Namaz Kit for Workplace |

Impact of Compliance in Non-Profit Management

Recently, I had the opportunity to facilitate an evaluation assignment for an organization seeking certification from Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) . The process reminded me how crucial documentation and compliance are for non-profits and it must not be considered as a burden or dikhawa , but as a pathway to credibility, transparency , and ultimately, greater impact. In addition to that these standardizations and certifications processes provides a moment for the organization to reflect on it accomplishments, astonhishes them on the success, and make them realize what mistakes have turned into habits. It makes them realize how greater transparency and accountability can be a tool to scale-up and growth, instead of reasons to feel vulnerable and exposed. From the perspective of Policy , institutions like PCP, provides an opportunity to standardize, formulaize and improve Pakistan's position in ever evolving global compliance landscape. Every such mini-assignment and expe...

26 lessons I learn from Rejection

Although I am disappointed but I have no doubts over the recruitment process and have no objection on my rejection. Life is full of experiences and lessons, and lesson keep repeating themselves until learnt. Let me share most alarming findings and lessons: 1. Keep your Social Profile Updated All started from here, from Linkedin. I received a message from a Human Resource Personal to contact him on urgent basis. At that point, I did not have any idea why he was asking me to call. 2. Do pick Unknown Numbers I normally pick unknown number until/unless I am really busy. I received a call during office hours but (I don't remember why) I missed it. When I call back the operator was unable to recall who called me and why? But she told it is an HR Agency and if needed, you will contacted soon. (Result : a day wasted) 3. Phone and Face-to-Face Interview might happen on same day It happened with me for the first time. A lady called in mor...
