We received an invitation card of a relative's wedding ceremony.
My teenage cousin was reading and asked from my mother. "Aunty isn't this Salman Bhai's (named changed for privacy) second marriage?"
"Yes! Dear" My mother replied while washing utensils.
I was playing Sukodo on my mobile & was not interested in this conversation.
Suddenly my cousin turns towards me & asked," Saddam Bhai! Answer a question of mine."
I replied while pausing the game "Yes Sweety Ask!"
She said, " Bhai! Islam is a very logical religion, Isn't it?"
"Yes, Of course!", I replied while exiting the game as I have completed the level & was not interested in continuing next level.
"Then What is the logic behind giving permission for four marriages to man?"
I did not know a concrete answer but to like giving her reply, I answered, "Dear! Some medical researches has shown that men's desire for love is greater than women", to end the argument I added, "Our beloved Prophet has kept more than one wife & has said we can keep up to four if we want."
She nodded but her expression reflects as she is not satisfied but is not interested to dig it more. To make some deposit in my emotional account I further added," But dear! Its a huge responsibility to give them equal right."
She, on a lighter note said, " Its hard to afford & bear one now a days. Thinking about four is crazy". We both laughed.
After few days while I was using Facebook thought to research on the logic. I visit few website & listen few scholars on Youtube. I developed a ROUGH IDEA about it.
In world the number of women is greater than men (List of countries by sex ratio); our country Pakistan is a living example where women are more than 50% of the population. In a very hypothetical situation, If we consider 01 man married to 01 women. Many women will left unmarried, but sex is a basic need for every human being, So in order to fulfil that need no option will be left for her except becoming a "Public Property" or "Social Sex Worker".
I believe Islam gives the women the highest degree of respect than any other religion. So in order to save a women's integrity/self-respect. Allah (SWT) gives another Muslim woman enough courage & strength that she share; probably; the most important person in her life, her Husband, with other women.
I would like to salute every single women who show enough emotional courage & strength to please Allah (SWT).
